NATIONAL URBAN LEAGUE'S MORIAL: SHARPTON'S VOICE ADDS VIBRANCY TO MSNBC LINEUP

NEW YORK (August 29, 2011) -- MSNBC has gained a dynamic and passionate voice in the Rev. Al Sharpton, the new host of "PoliticsNation," National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial said today.

"I congratulate both Rev. Sharpton and MSNBC," Morial said. "In keeping with network's slogan, 'Lean Forward,' Rev. Sharpton will lead a diverse and vigorous dialogue that will represent a wide range of viewpoints."

The National Urban League has worked in close partnership with Sharpton's organization, National Action Network, on a number of issues, particularly in the areas of employment, education, homeownership and health care.

"Too often in the mainstream media, the perspectives of underserved communities are not fully examined," Morial said. "I feel confident that the appointment of Rev. Sharpton is a step toward giving these communities a stronger voice in the national conversation."
